Michael McDaniel: The Cost of Being Me

I was just thinking about my life & how people may perceive it, & even me myself to be. Being a comedian, actor, entertainer...people may think that my life is exciting & perhaps a life that they may feel that they want to trade in for theirs. I say to that, "If you only knew what it cost me to be me!"

Think about something. What good is it if I buy you a gift & never give it to you? Is it a gift at all??? Actually, you may even be angry or resentful to someone who can supposedly enhance your life & chooses not to for no good reason at all. That is a crime!

"Where are you going with this Michael?" I proposed all of that to incline to the fact that gifted & talented people are gifted & talented for people. People love us because they love what our gifts bring to our lives (in most cases). Think of the people that you wouldn't know or that wouldn't know you except for the fact that you offered something of substance at some point that made you a draw to them.

Now, the flip-side of every gift is that someone has to pay for it. Yes, gifts cost! Not so much to the recipient...but the cost is usually always paid by the giver. Those that receive the gifts may have a perceived idea of what it cost you. However, what God had put in us for His people is priceless & full of purpose...and full of pain as well.

I have a grocery list of payments made. Investments with no immediate payoff or none at all. Gain & lost sheets from good & bad choices. The payments seem enumerable & some of them are intangible. Time. Peace of mind. Relationships (for me a marriage). Lack of sleep. Doubt. Pain of lonliness. Lack of stability. Constant questioning of "what's next?" Wishing you had what it takes to be normal & just get a job so you could know how you were gonna survive. Crazy right??? Well, these are just a few of the things I deal with everyday. Yes. This is the "cost of being me". Soooo, who wants it?! Lol!

The flipside of my pain is, I love this journey of self discovery. I feel like a treasure chest sometimes. There is always something new with each day. Yo find growth in what most would call a setback! The best part is seeing that my struggles somehow make like easier for the people that I'm gifted for! Pain is pain, but when there is a long term benefit of some kind it makes it a little easier & gives purpose to it all. #Grateful!

God is Great to Me!!!

  3. If one never experienced pain, how would they appreciate pleasure? If one never felt lonely, how would they appreciate quality time with that someone special? I'm a firm believer that God allows us to experience all of the bad situations, ill feelings, etc as a way of preparing/molding us. But, the greatest part about it is the fact that He never gives us more than we can handle. Lastly, the mere fact that He chose you to go thru all this, simply means that He is using or planning to use you in a mighty way! You are awesome, you are amazing but more importantly you are loved... Xoxo, THC a.k.a BM
